The Design World of Maison Gerard

You can find the original version of this post on The Modern Sybarite

Several weeks ago, the International Fine Art and Antique Dealer’s show came and went in NYC and I wrote about the fit of antiques in contemporary decor.  And for that, I had to hold back on the 20th century goodies from one of my all time favorite luxury shops in NYC that also exhibited there – Maison Gerard.

The pieces glimmered off walls covered in their signature chocolate suede and the dimmed lighting made for a peaceful mood inviting exploration.  The space could easily have dubbed as a REAL living room and I was continuously dreaming of plopping down on one of the Maison Ramsay sofas – I mean settees – hoping the Bossa Nova would start to play and uniform clad waiters would come round with champagne.  Wouldn’t this be vraiment magnifique?!

So you may have missed the International Show, but it would be criminal – assuming we share the same taste – if you missed the Maison Gerard shop next time you’re in NYC.  It really is a must see.  And however enthusiastic I am about this magical place, this feature is written with nothing more than admiration and respect for Gerard Widdershoven and Benoist Drut for giving us a special destination to find extraordinary and uber stylish 20th century design.
