House Beautiful's Annual 'Kitchen of the Year' Debuts in Atlanta

Acclaimed Designer Matthew Quinn Tapped to Showcase Extraordinary Design in Newly Constructed Home

ATLANTA, APRIL 4, 2016 House Beautiful’s Kitchen of the Year, a showcase for brilliant design and engaging culinary events since 2008, is coming to Atlanta in May, with master kitchen and bath designer Matthew Quinn selected to design the 1,000-square-foot space.

Now in its ninth year, the Kitchen of the Year will be in a newly constructed home for the first time – previous Kitchens have been freestanding installations or renovations – allowing Quinn to tailor the space to the life and style of the homeowner, Elizabeth Garvish, an immigration lawyer and mother of eight-month-old twins. Quinn created a kitchen that aligns with her busy life and reflects the way families live today with a centralized location in the home and a walk-in pantry, powder room, bar, living space, mudroom entryway, and covered porch for entertaining.

Quinn, an Atlanta-based designer, is known for combining artistry and function to create kitchens that are truly bespoke and reflect the taste and needs of his clients. In addition to his interiors work, Quinn is a product designer, with collections of hardware and stone and metal mantels and hoods. His aesthetic integrates the grace of classic design while making a modern statement.

“We’ve had the pleasure of featuring many Matthew Quinn kitchens in House Beautiful, and his ability to create personal, artful kitchens that function flawlessly is unsurpassed,” said Sophie Donelson, editor in chief of House Beautiful. “This Kitchen of the Year project is particularly exciting because the kitchen is the heart of a ground-up construction by one of Atlanta’s top builders. It’s a tremendous opportunity to show America the best of kitchen design today.” For design enthusiasts outside of the Atlanta area, the project will be featured in the October 2016 issue of House Beautiful, on newsstands in late September.

The Kitchen will be open to the public on Saturday, May 14 and Sunday, May 15 for guests to explore the innovative products and design elements featured in the Buckhead-area home, built by Michael Ladisic of Ladisic Fine Homes, a premium builder behind hundreds of Atlanta residential and commercial properties.

“We’ve truly customized this year’s House Beautiful Kitchen of the Year from the ground up,” said Quinn. “The Kitchen is designed with beautiful elements that I myself use on a daily basis, and the space represents my ultimate vision for the homeowner and her sons – it’s durable, easy to clean, and brings the family together in the home, all while evoking a sense of serenity and splendor.”

House Beautiful’s Kitchen of the Year will feature Thermador appliances; AKDO tiles; Ballard Designs home furnishings; Caesarstone countertops; Corbett Lighting; CSL lighting; Downsview Kitchens cabinets; DXV by American Standard sinks; Farrow & Ball paint; Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery; GROHE faucets; Grothouse custom wood countertops; Haiku Home ceiling fans; Hudson Valley Lighting; Matthew Quinn Collection hardware; Napoleon fireplaces; Panasonic vent fans; Room & Board furniture; Thibaut fabrics and wallcoverings; Troy Lighting; and Woodard outdoor furniture.
